We had such a great time with this workshop twice before that we thought we would offer it again...
Francis Moore. a very talented bear maker from Cumbria, is returning with another bear design for us. Only basic sewing skills are needed. Bring a packed lunch, a thimble and a small sharp pair of scissors.

Strip Pieced Cushion
This simple method of piecing is a great introduction to patchwork. It is fast and furious! Only basic sewing machine skills are necessary. Bring a packed lunch and your sewing machine.

Chunky Wall Hangings
During this one day workshop you will work with a range of fleece, learning to card & mix colours to blend together different qualities of wool. You can also incorporate fabrics, threads and plant material. In the morning you will lay out a test piece which will then be completed in the washing machine. No wet felting is involved, the washing machine will do all the hard work. This will free you up to create your masterpiece in the afternoon. You are welcome to bring your own fibres and scraps to recycle into your piece. Chunky felt is suitable for wall hangings, chair covers and rugs.

Shibori in Felt
The term Shibori describes various ways of manipulating cloth, which when dyed, creates stunning patterns and surface design. During this one day workshop participants will make two scarves with a pebble texture. The process includes binding, dying and wet felting.

Felt Hats
Jeanette will demonstrate how to work with a template to make a three dimensional shape. You will then create a felt hat which will finally be blocked onto a wooden hat block to fit your head. Your hat will truly be one of a kind!

Felt Clothing Weekend
During this two day workshop you will work with a standard size skirt pattern which you will adjust to your own measurements. You will create pieces of felt fabric large enough to construct a skirt. The skirt will be assembled using a sewing machine and construction will be based on tailoring techniques. Felting and basic sewing experience required as this will be a large project.

We won't count how many days until Christmas! But... to make it extra special this year, create your own Advent Calendar whilst learning how to felt seamless pockets. A unique present that even Santa couldn't resist!

Christmas Jewellery
You will create small felt elements, balls, spikes, flowers and more which also could be used for gift presentation. Make some beautiful jewellery for presents or simply just spoil yourself!

Summer School With Jeanette Sendler
'Land Art and Soft Sculpture Textural Landscapes'

The summer school will begin with a presentation of Jeanette's own land art spanning the past 10 years of her career. Inspired by a range of locations such as woodlands, quarries and derelict buildings, she has incorporated and transformed such places into rich and enchanted site specific art works. These works don't seek to copy nature but rather to comment on its infinite variety, and look at the contrasts that exist, both large and small, between nature and art.

As the workshop develops. you will choose your own outside location to work with. You will explore and record it, taking photographs, making sketches and notes, producing rubbings or impressions of surfaces. Using material collected from your site you can experiment both outside and in the studio before moving on to create your own textile pieces which will be installed in the landscape and photographed in situ.

Decorative Willow and Felt Basketry
Make a decorative vessel using traditional willow weaving techniques combined with felted strands. This class is suitable for complete beginners in both disciplines. Over the 3 days you will learn how to make a circular willow basket using Scottish grown willows, and transform the structure by incorporating long brightly coloured strands of felt or fleece into the side weave. You will also be able to thread or tie found objects such as shells, twigs, feathers and beads onto the strands in order to produce a sculptural vessel.

Jane Wilkinson makes traditional baskets, woven fences and coracles. She also produces contemporary willow work and has exhibited her craft throughout Scotland, the North of England and in New York. Jane has been weaving since 1995 and has been both chair and vice chair of the Scottish Basket Makers Circle. She has also judged the basketry class at the Royal Highland Show.

Introduction to free machine embroidery combining mosaic felt making and patterned cotton fabric. The class will start with the creation of a mosaic felt background. Using this a a base, you will design your own cushion using free machine embroidery and appliqué techniques, incorporating printed cotton fabric from Twist's exciting range. The use of the drop feed and machine embroidery presser foot will be fully explored on your own machine, or one supplied for a small rental fee.

Pauline Hann lectured at Duncan of Jordonstone College of Art and Design in Dundee for 30 years and is currently teaching part-time at Glenalmond College. She is an active member of Edge, the Scottish Textile Artists group.
