A day of Wensleydale Fibre (with cheese)
Nearly extinct in Britain in the 1960's, this rare breed produces very long, fine, curly fleece entirely free of kemp which makes the wool very soft and shiny. You will work with the fibre from a small flock of sheep at Kilmany near Newburgh, Fife. We will incorporate curly locks and spun Wensleydale yarn into our felt to create a unique wrap for a special occasion. Come and enjoy a day of working with this special, truly local fibre. To make it 'cheesy,' a small snack lunch of Wensleydale cheese and oatcakes will be served.

Felt Making in Central Asia
This one day felt making workshop will take you on a journey to central Asia and to the lands of ancient felt making traditions. A short slide presentation will introduce you to the two main techniques, Tekemet and Syrmak used in Kyrgyzstan for decorative felt making. Syrmak is a special stitch technique and method of appliqué, whereas with Tekemet coloured fibres are laid out to create patterns on top of plain coloured felt. You will make 3 placemats using these techniques.

In the afternoon having left Kyrgyzstan you will be transported to Mongolia by watching Jeanette's film "Land of Felt and Camels" followed by a discussion of the techniques used by the Mongolian Nomads. Unfortunately you will have to leave the rolling of a felt carpet (behind a local camel) for another day!

Felt Handbags
During this workshop you will make your individual handbag from wool using the technique of seamless felt making. You will learn to card and mix wool and work with a template. The course will cover pockets, straps, handles and fasteners. Knitted material will be supplied for an attractive surface design.

Machine Knitting - Frilly Scarves
Whether you have used a knitting machine before or this is your first time, Jeanette will teach you step by step how to make an attractive scarf using the holding stitch. Knitting machines will be provided or you are welcome to bring your own.

Chunky Wall Hangings
During this one day workshop you will work with a range of local fleece, learning to card and mix colours and to blend together different qualities of wool. In the morning you will lay out a test piece which will then be completed in the washing machine. No wet felting involved! Just sit back and let the washing machine do the hard physical work. This will free you up to create your masterpiece in the afternoon. Be prepared for the unexpected! You can also incorporate fabrics, threads and plant materials.

Wrapped in Felt
Explore the versatility of merino pre-felt whilst creating beautiful wraps. Dyeing the fabric and adding other natural fibres will help you to make a truly individual piece of wearable art. Suitable for beginners.

Grid Scarves
During this one day workshop you will make fine felt scarves, incorporating techniques such as cobweb felt, nuno felt and the grid technique. Lots and lots of beautiful samples on show.

Felt Jewellery 'Spikes, Spheres & Tubes'
Design and make necklaces, bracelets and flowers in fine or chunky felt based on your own design ideas. Bring along special beads and give them a new lease of life! Lots of lovely samples will inspire your work and full guidance will be given using methods of wet and dry felt making. Emphasis is laid on a professional finish. This class is suitable for beginners.

Felt Slippers
